.Presently, there are two drama societies in CHIJ SNGS, existing in the two most commonly used languages- English, and Chinese. We feel that if given more opportunities to display our talents in Drama, we might be able to excel as ELDDS has done.
We have not overlooked the fact that the school has given us a chance to develop ourselves. However, we feel that opera is not the most suitable avenue of improvement, due to several reasons, as I will state below:
1. Firstly, rather then waste valuable resources and manpower on those unwilling to take up the art of opera, money would be better utilized to develop the CCA in various other aspects, eg: drama.
2.Next, most of the CCA members are rather hesitant towards the idea of taking up opera. Opera simply does not appeal to most young people these days. Most members came in prepared to join a Modern Drama society, where they will be exposed to various forms of drama, not just opera. It was indeed a shocking fact when the Drama society was told of the arrangements for opera training.
